Nice post. I actually found your site when searching for something completely different.

I have very similar views on the DRM subject. I hadn't considered it before, but I think I will hold off on that SATA Blu-Ray drive that's on my Newegg wishlist now, and just get an old DVD-RW. I'll continue buy used copies of music and movies. I do use FLAC instead of OGG, though, ha.

| Hell, the latest lobbying by the record
| companies in Washington argues that copy protection
| ultimately helps to prevent terrorist attacks. WTF? (On the
| flip side, one might credibly claim that Hannah Montana is,
| in fact, a terrorist attack on young teenagers.)

I gotta tell you: 100% your opinion, and you found the right terms to describe the techniques the media industry is applying to politicians.

Here in Germany we got harsh debating during the last weeks about censorship of internet-content. The argumentation is: "stop people from becoming addictive to child porn through Spam mails". You think: this is too stupid to be true. You're right, welcome to reality.

Our minister for family affairs Ursula von der Leyen obviously got no idea what she is talking about. You may find a comprehensive article here on our site:
http://news.metaparadigma.de/?p=1920

The problem: scientific consultants said censoring will not solve anything but produce more problems.

The german NGO "Child Watch" said this strategy will not solve the problem, as simply sending abuse mails to the providers of child porn hosting server is much more effective.

And even the german society for computer sciences said censorship is completely the wrong approach. Anyway Ms von der Leyen is still convinced to help the poor children by introducing a censorship list.

In the end: and this is the main problem here: who supports Ms von der Leyen's approach? Again the friendly media and music industry is lobbying politicians. They say private property also needs to be saved for all the serious internet users' sake. Good night Germanistan.

Censorship is coming again. The conservative right wing parties use their governmental influence. The dulling of german people's minds has just begun again.

Screw the majors, love the indies. I bed if this list does not get stopped by our liberal and left wing parties, it will only take a year and besides political censorship, the media industry will also submit pages they wanna have censored.

Screw them majors, love the indies.
